Trip Description

Nestled at the foot of the Himalaya and about 175 km from Kathmandu, Chitwan is one of the few remaining undisturbed vestiges of the Terai region.  The forested hills and changing river landscape make Chitwan one of the most stunning and attractive parts of the lowlands in Nepal.

Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the first national park in Nepal.  The park offers a great habitat for a variety of wildlife. It is home to one of the last populations of one-horned rhinoceros and is one of last refuges of the Royal Bengal Tiger.  There are also many other species inhabit in the park, such as Asiatic elephants, marsh crocodiles, wild boars, sloth bears, otters, golden jackals, Bengal foxes, several species of deer and other mammals.  More than 350 species of birds have been found in the park.

With the rich flora and fauna, every year Chitwan National Park attracts many eco-tourists and wildlife enthusiasts. Take a jungle hike to watch birds and wildlife, and ride in a narrow canoe on Rapti River to spot crocodiles and water birds. A jeep safari in the jungle is a popular way to explore the park and look for wild animals.  If you want a relaxing time, you can stroll to the riverbank and enjoy the natural beauty and a sunset, or walk around in the surrounding villages to learn about the local ethnic Tharu culture or shop for souvenirs.
